My wife ASA and daughter SN and have been so understanding in my turbulent times and the relationship , I would say has taken a good momentum on the better side.

ASA is out the country and the feelings are so mixed. Its, well...I am shaping up again and this time with a grip and head on my shoulders.

Staight from the Butt !!

Well, life is taking some turns these days.. more focus, ideas that work, concrete plans, ..I like this. Hosted a small party for a few people from office, as I had completed 1 yr. These days completing even 1 yr in org calls for a party. At least from my point of veiw, since I lose interest in anything in a short stint, be it cars, bikes, girls, love, sex...whatever. People thought it was weird to host a party for completing 1 yr. But then, it was my call. You work...you get paid, but that’s not what you call a job. A job is something where you get satisfied, feel good about doing it, I would even go to extent of getting an orgasm in something you want accomplish in your job, task, activity or whatever you call it.

In my first blog, I referred something called‘Suppressed Knowledge Transfer Syndrome’ (SKTS), I feel I have more of it these days. Sleeping is just becoming for the sake of it and I more awke even in my sleep these days. 24 hrs is just not enough.

Will be attenting a conference in Chennai , will be travelling and get back to blog next Monday. See you all and have a great day and lovely forthcoming weekend.

Chao !!

I got mail..

I received a mail from Tom Peter’s company, saying that http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tompetersdisciples is the first ‘Fan Club’ ever created for Tom. Felt immensely happy on that note. And my thoughts went back on the memory lane to track the history of events that happened which made is possible.

My first readings on Tom’s writings was introduced by J. Arun Kumar, my classmate in Madras School of Social Work (MSSW) in the year 1995, but I guess no one would have read that book, Tom Peters Seminar "Crazy Times Call for Crazy Organizations", I like me. I actually memorized that book to a certain extent and could recite some key statements and pages without much difficulty. My close friends even went to extereme to call me “Junior Tom Peters or Here comes our Tom’…a Kudos to Arun!! Thanks da mams.

I was out in the market, hunting for a HR position, not a single company acknowledged my thoughts or ideas on the contemporary HR which I believed then, that could change the whole face of HR. I didn’t feel dejected rather I felt pity for these guys, I joined a small company as a ‘Marketing Executive’ selling mobile phones, you want to know the idea behind joining this…(check out my next blog).

Vijay Swaminadhan, an extraordinary person, with a PMD from Harvard Business School, hired me. I started to work on Quality Management and very little work on HR. I was the least paid guy in the class of 1997 at that time. I said to myself, never loose hope, you will make it soon. I still consider Swaminadhan Associates was the wiser move in the my 7 yrs career life, the biggest investment I made and the ROI was worth Billions of dollars. The learning and dialogues I had with Swaminadhan still echoes in all my senses.

Keep dropping in for more adventures with Kingston...

That's What I call Soccer...

24th August, at 5.30 pm a field near the Han River was crowed by Samsung employees. We were having a inter department soccer game. Given to understand that Koreans are “Soccer lovers”, it didn’t surprise me to see the enthusiasm and cheer from the crowds. I offered to play with them and bought a pair of cleats, and was all set to enter the field. Our HR President was also offered to play, he is a soccer fanatic. We started to practice a few kicks and that was when this discussion started.

Mr. President: hi, you play good. Do people play soccer in India?
Me: of course we play soccer.
Mr. President: Hmm….but I haven’t seen anything in news on soccer in India
Me: well, our core competency is in Cricket and hockey.
Mr. President: Yes…yes….I heard that. But no one plays Cricket in Korea.
Me: well, we are too good at Cricket.
Mr. President: So, what position are you playing today?
Me: Defense, left side.
Mr. President: ok, let see how well you play.

(We entered the field)

I thought to myself, Man…this is gonna be difficult, me not kicked the ball for 10 yrs, and I suddenly remembered my wife’s saying “why the hell do you have to offer yourself for the game, you can hardly even run” But I defended her with my ego, “I am a football player and have been the head of the team in school for 2 consecutive yrs”. And guess what she said “be careful, don’t screw yourself”

I entered the field, two things were at stake, one, Indian reputation and two my wife’s thinking. The game started and I was playing well, running like a mad dog, breathing heavily and giving my best. We lost the game 5:4 but we had a amazing game. Few shots of mine were brilliant and the crowd cheered every time I defended.

Guess what, our president jus said five words “you are a good player”

Went home, explained the game and my wife said, “I knew you will play well” Grrrr…..Women.
