I received a mail from Tom Peter’s company, saying that http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tompetersdisciples is the first ‘Fan Club’ ever created for Tom. Felt immensely happy on that note. And my thoughts went back on the memory lane to track the history of events that happened which made is possible.
My first readings on Tom’s writings was introduced by J. Arun Kumar, my classmate in Madras School of Social Work (MSSW) in the year 1995, but I guess no one would have read that book, Tom Peters Seminar "Crazy Times Call for Crazy Organizations", I like me. I actually memorized that book to a certain extent and could recite some key statements and pages without much difficulty. My close friends even went to extereme to call me “Junior Tom Peters or Here comes our Tom’…a Kudos to Arun!! Thanks da mams.
I was out in the market, hunting for a HR position, not a single company acknowledged my thoughts or ideas on the contemporary HR which I believed then, that could change the whole face of HR. I didn’t feel dejected rather I felt pity for these guys, I joined a small company as a ‘Marketing Executive’ selling mobile phones, you want to know the idea behind joining this…(check out my next blog).
Vijay Swaminadhan, an extraordinary person, with a PMD from Harvard Business School, hired me. I started to work on Quality Management and very little work on HR. I was the least paid guy in the class of 1997 at that time. I said to myself, never loose hope, you will make it soon. I still consider Swaminadhan Associates was the wiser move in the my 7 yrs career life, the biggest investment I made and the ROI was worth Billions of dollars. The learning and dialogues I had with Swaminadhan still echoes in all my senses.

That's What I call Soccer...
24th August, at 5.30 pm a field near the Han River was crowed by Samsung employees. We were having a inter department soccer game. Given to understand that Koreans are “Soccer lovers”, it didn’t surprise me to see the enthusiasm and cheer from the crowds. I offered to play with them and bought a pair of cleats, and was all set to enter the field. Our HR President was also offered to play, he is a soccer fanatic. We started to practice a few kicks and that was when this discussion started.
Mr. President: hi, you play good. Do people play soccer in India?
Me: of course we play soccer.
Mr. President: Hmm….but I haven’t seen anything in news on soccer in India
Me: well, our core competency is in Cricket and hockey.
Mr. President: Yes…yes….I heard that. But no one plays Cricket in Korea.
Me: well, we are too good at Cricket.
Mr. President: So, what position are you playing today?
Me: Defense, left side.
Mr. President: ok, let see how well you play.
(We entered the field)
I thought to myself, Man…this is gonna be difficult, me not kicked the ball for 10 yrs, and I suddenly remembered my wife’s saying “why the hell do you have to offer yourself for the game, you can hardly even run” But I defended her with my ego, “I am a football player and have been the head of the team in school for 2 consecutive yrs”. And guess what she said “be careful, don’t screw yourself”
I entered the field, two things were at stake, one, Indian reputation and two my wife’s thinking. The game started and I was playing well, running like a mad dog, breathing heavily and giving my best. We lost the game 5:4 but we had a amazing game. Few shots of mine were brilliant and the crowd cheered every time I defended.
Guess what, our president jus said five words “you are a good player”
Went home, explained the game and my wife said, “I knew you will play well” Grrrr…..Women.

Insomniac moments…
I was wide awake at 4.30am, considering the fact I went to sleep only at about 12.30am. I dreamt of sitting in a seminar by my virtual guru “Tom Peters”. Man, he has really worked wonders, in my career over the years. I think I would have dreamt of him, coz; I was listening to his audio CD which I bought yesterday. Ok, coming back to the point, I was unable to sleep again and headed to my favorite gadget, my notebook, which often sleeps with me apart from my first legal wife. I started checking my mails, but still I was unable to get over Tom. I thought for a nano-second and created an online e-group for Tom Peters. I worked out mentally the activities that I would like to do there. Guess what there were obviously about 6 key activities that cropped up to an instant thought. Good, will be definitely useful for the community.
I felt little hungry, considering the fact, I skip my breakfast everyday, and headed to get myself a bowl of Kellogg’s (unfortunately idly and Dosai are only served on weekends, and that too depending on the stock from India). In the process, made some sound that disturbed my “first blood” (my daughter, 15 months old) and was instantly screwed by words of anger from my wife.
Lesson: never. Ever, ever wake up early in life, if you have a living space of just 450 Sq feet.

The Elite !!
Well, this post in on the “elite”, the cream of the society. This crowd is admired by some and hated by many. But they decide for you, in everything that you can imagine. What’s so special about them?
I had the opportunity after my university to work with some of the prestigious families in Chennai. I started admiring them instantly, I can say, I derived some source of inspiration from them. They were not people struggling to achieve in life, rather striving to sustain what they have achieved for long. The assets which had been accumulated dated back to Pre-British era, wealth that could have kept them going for another century or so. But no one jus placed their ass their and ate the accumulated capital of their ancestors, but were working hard in very way to make few additional assets and protect the wealth, seeing to that it never diminished and there is substantial quantum of increase in all the areas they work.
They have a perfect life style, health is their priority, they understand well, that one can’t enjoy and taste the wealth without health. They go against all odds to keep their mind and body fit. They have much more temptations than us, controlling them is definitely a God’s gift.
So, learn from them, who knows, you might join that crowd in the future, if determined. Man !!! to blog is amaaaaaaaaazing !! See you soon on the next post. Have a great day !

The Chronicle !!!
At some point of time, these blogs are gonna be a curtain raiser for my biography, I guess. If at all I have a chance to do one. Hence, I suppose it should carry a lot of my experiences of the good, the bad and the evil. I am trying to be honest in my writings, take off that “persona” of me and get into the basic instinct level of my mind. Its often, very difficult to be too honest, truthful and sincere, at least for me , if I have to speak for myself. Be it personal life, work or any relationship, being YOU sometimes can lead to self destruction. Blogs are a place , where you can supposedly ventilate these feelings of truth, bringing the God and devil in you to the surface and craft a virtual war against each other. The One wins, that’s the real you. And then you can decide which one you wanna feed and which one you wanna starve. Im sure, Life is all about this balanced diet.
Hmm….fasten your seat belts, its gonna be a ‘rollercoaster’, with up and downs, shaky, heart pounding and some scary stuff too.
I was reading Anand’s blog, and it mentioned “fuck`em, if they can’t take a Joke”. That’s exactly what I wanna quote too. Here, Joke = my thoughts.
Lets have a fantastic week !!!!

Mental Masturbation..!!
Lately, there’s a “Paradigm shift” happening within me, a lot of things seem to be changing, and changing for good...I guess. The work life is so good so far, no regrets and complaints. My financial denominators have grown @ an average rate of 1190% in 7 yrs of my corporate career. Fantastic !!. But whtz the point, my personal life really sucks!!, was unable to fine tune it for a longtime. But now it seems to be happening. Finally, I m trying to bring some basic discipline into place.
These days, I suffer from a new disease, which I name it as ‘Suppressed Knowledge Transfer Syndrome’ (SKTS). I also feel an urge to share a lot of good things to the world, mostly on Management, and on Human Resource which is my profession. Have been participating in a lot of online forums and e-groups. And on a selfish note, at some point of time in life, you need a ‘Personal Branding’ strategy …without which, it would be unable to reach out the stars.
Well, have to get back to work now and blog again later.
