I received a mail from Tom Peter’s company, saying that http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tompetersdisciples is the first ‘Fan Club’ ever created for Tom. Felt immensely happy on that note. And my thoughts went back on the memory lane to track the history of events that happened which made is possible.
My first readings on Tom’s writings was introduced by J. Arun Kumar, my classmate in Madras School of Social Work (MSSW) in the year 1995, but I guess no one would have read that book, Tom Peters Seminar "Crazy Times Call for Crazy Organizations", I like me. I actually memorized that book to a certain extent and could recite some key statements and pages without much difficulty. My close friends even went to extereme to call me “Junior Tom Peters or Here comes our Tom’…a Kudos to Arun!! Thanks da mams.
I was out in the market, hunting for a HR position, not a single company acknowledged my thoughts or ideas on the contemporary HR which I believed then, that could change the whole face of HR. I didn’t feel dejected rather I felt pity for these guys, I joined a small company as a ‘Marketing Executive’ selling mobile phones, you want to know the idea behind joining this…(check out my next blog).
Vijay Swaminadhan, an extraordinary person, with a PMD from Harvard Business School, hired me. I started to work on Quality Management and very little work on HR. I was the least paid guy in the class of 1997 at that time. I said to myself, never loose hope, you will make it soon. I still consider Swaminadhan Associates was the wiser move in the my 7 yrs career life, the biggest investment I made and the ROI was worth Billions of dollars. The learning and dialogues I had with Swaminadhan still echoes in all my senses.
Keep dropping in for more adventures with Kingston...
